Easter fun at Ferrylee Care Home

April 9, 2026

Residents at Ferrylee Care Home had a cracking Easter weekend celebrating the diversity of the residents and staff.

On Good Friday the residents held and participated in their own church service.  They discussed the ways other countries, including Germany, Spain, Sweden, Australia and Poland, celebrated Easter in line with their cultural and religious beliefs.

A Polish member of staff taught the residents about the tradition of Smigus-Dyngus, where people douse family and friends with water which is symbolic of spring and is meant to bring good luck and health.  The residents even enjoyed soaking the staff member to welcome in the spring!
