Join us in celebrating Learning Disability Week 2025

To mark the week, we’re hosting a community event with Edinburgh Leisure at Meadowbank Sports Centre on Thursday 11 September from 11am to 2pm.

This year, Scotland’s theme is “I am here” – a powerful message about visibility, inclusion and the rights of people with learning disabilities to be seen, heard and supported in their communities.

We’ve invited local organisations to showcase what they can offer people with learning disabilities, as well as their families and carers.

This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with people, find information about what support and services there are, and celebrate the strengths and contributions of the learning disability community.

On the day, there will be activities, stalls and much more – arts and crafts, sports, music and wellbeing/fitness tasters. It’s free to go along to join in the celebrations on:

Thursday 11 September 2025 – 11am to 2pm
Indoor Athletics Hall, Meadowbank Sports Centre, London Road, Edinburgh EH7 6AE

The Fit and Active team at Edinburgh Leisure and our Local Area Coordination team have pulled together a fun-packed day with support from 20 organisations across the city.

There will be lots of free interactive sessions. The day’s programme includes:

  • 11 – 11.15am – Welcome from Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership
  • 11.15 – 11.45am – Street Soccer Session
  • 11.45am – 12.15pm – Upmo band
  • 12.15 – 1pm – Quiet Time for Conversation Café with Scottish Consortium for Learning Disabilities
  • 1 – 1.20pm – Danceability session with seated exercises
  • 1.30 – 1.50pm – The Crannie/Moving Music Drum Circle
  • 1.50 – 2pm – Massaoke, thanks and close

You’ll be able to visit stalls and sample some of the activities that each organisation has to offer.

Don’t miss the chance if you’re interested. There’s always great feedback from people who go along. One visitor from last year said “The drum circle was so friendly, everyone joined in and you didn’t need any musical experience.” And another participant said “I loved how relaxed and friendly everyone was and I signed up to some activities.” If you’d like to know more, email Kirsty Williamson or you can have a look at the SCLD website.
