The Edinburgh Integration Joint Board (EIJB) has today agreed a budget for adult health and social care in Edinburgh for almost £1 billion.
Like all public bodies in Scotland, the EIJB is facing significant financial challenges with demand increasing due to an aging population and rising costs of delivering services.
At the Integration Board Meeting on Tuesday 24 March 2026 the board agreed a medium-term financial strategy for the next three years, which includes investment of £968 million in 2026/27 and the delivery of a £18.4 million savings plan.
This budget protects the most vulnerable in Edinburgh, ensuring they continue to receive appropriate levels of care and support.
Councillor Conor Savage, Chair of the Edinburgh Integration Joint Board said: ‘We have been working closely with our partners in Edinburgh Council and NHS Lothian, and I am pleased that we have agreed a proposal to deliver a balanced budget for next year.
‘While we are facing unprecedented challenges to the sustainability of our health and care system, this budget ensures we can continue to deliver vital services for vulnerable adults and make additional investments in improving quality and outcomes for the people of Edinburgh.’
Christine Laverty, Chief Officer of the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership said: ‘I welcome the EIJB’s approval of this budget that delivers an adult health and social care plan worth almost £1 billion for Edinburgh.
‘We have agreed £18.4m of savings and while tough decisions were made, we are satisfied that the most vulnerable in society are protected and cared for at an appropriate level.
‘There are further challenges ahead for the EIJB in coming years, but our commitment to the people of Edinburgh is to provide quality health and care services for those who need them most, with care and compassion, within the budget available.’
