Short breaks for carers
Carer have told us that breaks from caring are essential to allow them to continue to care for longer and maintain their health and well-being. Breaks can take place in a number of ways and for differing lengths of time.
As well as a few days stay in a residential or nursing home we can also offer:
Flexible sitter services in your home or community
A direct payment to let the person cared for buy services they choose
Access to a range of day services
Residential weekend breaks, provided by care for carers
As part of the requirement of the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016, we have produced our short breaks statements in collaboration with local carer’s organisations and in consultation with carers.
The statement provides carers with:
Information on the range of services that can provide a break from caring
Information on where carers can get further advice and support
A directory of local services and contact details for information
The options available will depend on the needs and preferences of the person who is cared for. The person you care for will usually need to have an assessment to get an allowance which they can spend on a short break.
