Community Equipment and Minor Adaptations

The Community Equipment Service is a partnership between The City of Edinburgh Council, East Lothian Council, Midlothian Council and NHS Lothian. We provide, deliver, install, repair, maintain and recycle a range of equipment helping people of all ages to live independently.

The type of equipment we provide includes:

  • profiling beds
  • mobile hoists
  • toileting aids
  • bathing/showering aids
  • mobility products.

Healthcare professionals, such as Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and District Nurses carry out assessments and order equipment. To talk to someone about getting an assessment, contact Social Care Direct or your local health and social care contact centre.

Within Edinburgh, you can also self-refer for minor adaptations such as grabrails, handrails and banisters, which we will arrange to be delivered and installed in your house free of charge.

You can follow the link below to arrange to return items to the Community Equipment Service or learn where you can return the items yourself. We also offer a Click and Collect Service so equipment can be picked up from or returned to ATEC24.

Living Made Easy is an impartial advice and information website about daily living equipment and other aspects of independent living. If you would like to find out more about the types of equipment can be purchased privately, you can visit their website.
