Applying for a Carer’s Emergency Card
If you’re caring for a loved one, you can apply for a carers card to ensure that the emergency services and social care services know that you are an unpaid carer.
It’s free to apply for a card and carrying it means we can put further support in place for you, or the person you look after, should you need it.
We will send you a card with a unique reference number which will identify you. The card also carries the Social Care Direct phone number.
What do I need to apply?
To apply, you just need to tell us a bit about yourself and the person you care for. You’ll also need to give details of two people who can take your place in an emergency.
Who can apply?
You can apply if you provide regular unpaid care for someone who can’t manage on their own and the person you care for lives in Edinburgh.
What if my circumstances change?
We will send you a form each year to check if your situation has changed or you can contact Social Care Direct to tell us about a change.
